Galactic gamma-ray sources.
Abstract
A short review of experimental results and a presentation of the most complete data base on galactic gamma-ray sources, the second catalog of high-energy gamma-ray sources of the COS-B mission, are given. For the few galactic gamma-ray sources identified with known galactic objects, the gamma-ray properties are reviewed in connection with other observational aspects of the same objects. The galactic gamma-ray sources are considered as bona fide gamma-ray objects, and their collective properties as a new galactic population are presented. The efforts devoted to the identification of the gamma-ray sources are discussed. The phenomenology of the galactic gamma-ray sources is used as input and boundary condition to the astrophysical scenarios considered for the numerous models of the gamma-ray sources, both compact and extended.
